John Coltrane’s “My Favorite Things” is one of my favorite things, an attempt to echo the music with spirited improvisation.” -bill suttles

The only thing my father loves almost as much as art is Jazz! This is a project he did for an opening The District Gallery for a themed exhibit around jazz. In all, there are about 20 pieces, with 15×15″ being the largest size. They are all like this one, purely emotional response to the jazz he loves (yes, he had just found Spotify on Alexa and listened to all of his old-time favorites for several months).
My dad has had many openings at The District Gallery in Knoxville, TN. He has known the owners’ Jeff and Denise Hood for over twenty years now and also exhibits his traditional Southern Appalachian and European work at the gallery.
About Bill Suttles on ArtJolt
Bill Suttles on ArtJolt is maintained by his son, Todd Suttles. My father and I started this site during the first Covid19 self-isolation period. My dad, who is 89, continues to paint every day as he has his entire life, and I am now doing my part to bring my dad’s lifetime of work to a greater audience. Over his lifetime, he has painted thousands of paintings sitting in private and corporate collections all over the world.
As is typical with most artists, my father has never been one to toot his own horn. If he can create his art and magically have it find a happy owner, he is most comfortable. For most artists balancing the line between creating and promoting is an awkward experience. My purpose in creating this site is to bring him the exposure that will enable him to experience the accolades I feel he deserves but won’t pursue.
Thank You for visiting us and please tell your friends about my dad’s art. – Todd Suttles, 2020
